Dan Auvil

President
Term: 9/2011 - 9/2012
Lives in Berkeley, CA
I've been attending the EEFC workshops since their beginning both as a teacher and happy camper. Reading evaluations during my previous service on the Board (2006-2009) and speaking with newcomers to the scene have expanded my appreciation of the EEFC offering. This has prompted my return to the Board and I hope, as President, I can help ensure the continued vibrancy, and survival, of the workshops, so future campers have a chance to experience those "magic moments" that have enriched my life.

Nancy Leeper

Fundraising
Term: 9/2011 - 9/2015
Lives in Corvalis, OR
Nancy Leeper was introduced to folk dancing in the early 1970s, when she quickly established a preference for music and dances of the Balkans. As a long-time performer with The Ethnic Dance Theatre in Minnesota, she expanded her interests in the region and later pursued graduate studies in cultural and political geography, with her research focusing on Balkan diaspora communities and development funding networks in Southeastern Europe. Nancy lives in Corvallis, Oregon, where she is a freelance editor. Whenever possible, she serves as an international election observer, and has participated in several election missions in Macedonia, Albania, and Kyrgyzstan.
Nancy attended her first Balkan Music & Dance Workshop in 1988. From that year on, she held work exchange and administrative staff positions, and served as administrative director for EEFC in the mid-1990s. After being away from the EEFC community for many years, Nancy is happily back with the organization, and deeply committed to maintaining the health and vitality of the workshops, as well as expanding the reach of EEFC’s programs and services to connect with communities beyond the workshops.

Ann Norton
Scholarship
Raffle
Term: 9/2009 - 9/2012
Lives in Richmond, CA
Ann has been folk dancing since 1975. Balkan dance and music was her favorite from the start. She danced with performance groups in Colorado and California in the 1970s and 1980s and attended her first Balkan camp in Mendocino in 1983. She has only missed one year since then, but went to both East and West Coast camps another year to make up for it. Over the years Ann has taken beginning classes in many instruments and in singing, but decided that she was better suited to dancing to Balkan music than to producing it. When she left Colorado in 1986, Ann decided to settle in an area that had lots of live Balkan music, and ended up in the San Francisco Bay Area. She still lives there with her husband Mike, who she met at Balkan camp, two dogs and three cats. In "real" life, Ann is a veterinary technician.
"After many years of doing work exchange for the Mendocino workshop, I’m looking forward to doing a lot more for the EEFC while I’m on the board. I can’t think of any organization that has had a bigger impact on my life. EEFC people are family, and camp is home."
