The Facility
The Mendocino Woodlands is located in a beautiful redwood forest near the Northern California coast, 175 miles north of San Francisco. One-half hour inland from the scenic town of Mendocino, our camp has three clusters of rustic (no electricity) four-person enclosed cabins on somewhat hilly terrain with stone fireplaces and balconies, a spacious dance hall, and plenty of tenting sites. Each cluster has its own bathhouse with lights and hot showers. Between classes you can hike in the forest or take a dip in the swimming hole in the nearby river.
The Workshop
The Mendocino Workshop begins late Saturday afternoon, June 23, and ends with breakfast Saturday, June 30. An orientation meeting is held Saturday evening to introduce participants to the facility and to the teaching staff. Classes begin Sunday morning, and are held each day through Friday. Following a review session Friday morning, classes participate in a student concert. The week closes on Friday with a Balkan-style lamb roast and the last of the week’s great evening parties. We leave the facilities by 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 30.
Food
We are delighted to welcome back Tod Nysether of Simple Pleasures Catering in Santa Cruz, and crew, who will be preparing our delicious food and snacks.
Families
We offer a class in children’s dance movement, a kids’ band class, and, new this year, a singing class specially geared toward the young ones.
New this year: We must have a Waiver on file for every underage child attending a workshop. No exceptions. If the child is not attending with a legal guardian/parent, we also need a Guardian Consent form on file. These need to be completed and received in our office no later than May 23. Download the form here (1.7mb PDF).
Part-time Registration
Part-time registration is available, and we suggest that you plan your attendance to correspond to the three- and four-day blocks listed on the fee schedule (see below). Part-time space is limited. If you are a first-time part-timer intending to pursue instruction in an unfamiliar instrument or vocal style, we recommend that you begin your stay with the first day of the Workshop. Also, if you are new to camp, it may be easier if you begin your stay on Saturday, June 23, the first day of the workshop, to take advantage of the one orientation meeting offered on the first night of camp.
Evening Parties
You may attend just the evening parties, which begin at 9 p.m. The cost is $35 per person. Admission includes the evening dance party and late-night Kafana activities until 2:30 a.m. (no overnight accommodations). Please register for evening parties with the EEFC Office before June 21. Tell us what night you plan to attend and the names of others in your party. We cannot accept drop-in partygoers. Registered partygoers may check in and pay at the Kafana when you arrive on site (no earlier than 8 p.m.).
Work Exchanges
A few partial-tuition-waiver work exchanges may be available for full-week participants. Please contact the EEFC Office for more information.
Note that we will accept work exchange inquiries only after registration has officially begun.
